VINYL Flooring Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT) + Domestic Vinyl

What is Vinyl Flooring?

The two primary varieties of Vinyl Flooring are Luxury Vinyl Tiles (LVT) and Domestic Vinyl.

While both LVT and Domestic Vinyl are made from similar materials, they are constructed in distinct ways to achieve different appearances and effects. Vinyl flooring is created from multiple layers of various materials that are assembled to create a highly durable, practical, and cost-effective flooring option. Vinyl effectively mimics the look of natural wood materials and is primarily composed of PVC and other polymers.

Vinyl flooring has emerged as the leading choice in flooring options today. It is often selected for its eco-friendly qualities, affordability, durability, and low maintenance, making it ideal for high-traffic areas in all residential, commercial and industrial spaces.

Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT) offers a wide range of classic and contemporary designs, available in either tile or plank formats to replicate the appearance of traditional tiles or wooden planks. It is also available in both rigid and flexible styles.

Domestic Vinyl features fiberglass-cushion-backed flooring that comes in large, continuous, flexible sheets, available in an almost endless variety of styles, from timelessly realistic to more creative designs. Additionally, Domestic Vinyl is one of the most cost-effective flooring options for homeowners and is 100% phthalate-free with low VOC and formaldehyde emissions.

Is Vinyl Flooring Waterproof?

All vinyl flooring products are inherently waterproof due to their primary composition of PVC. However, the quality of installation can influence their water-resistance. For example, Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT) is available in planks or tiles that align next to each other, creating multiple seams. While the individual planks and tiles are waterproof, improper installation can lead to water or moisture penetrating through these seams. In contrast, Domestic Vinyl comes in sheets, resulting in very few, if any, seams during installation.

By meticulously adhering to the manufacturer’s guidelines, both LVT and Domestic Vinyl can effectively be utilized in moisture-prone areas, including bathrooms and kitchens.

How long does Vinyl Flooring last?

Vinyl flooring can have a lifespan ranging from 5 to 25 years, influenced by its quality, installation methods, and maintenance practices.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of Vinyl Flooring?

The pros and cons of vinyl flooring can vary greatly based on the type and quality of the product you select.

The well-known benefits of vinyl flooring are numerous:

  • Comfortable and quiet underfoot

  • Resistant to damage and moisture

  • Easy to install and maintain

  • Affordable

  • Available in a wide range of colors and designs

These features make vinyl flooring a popular choice among many consumers, as it offers a sustainable flooring solution.

Although there are some disadvantages to also consider:

  • It can be challenging to remove if glued down

  • It may dent under heavy objects

  • It is susceptible to punctures from very sharp items

  • It struggles to withstand high temperatures

  • It may fade and discolor with excessive UV exposure

Due to these factors, vinyl is typically not recommended for areas that receive a lot of direct sunlight.

Fortunately, advancements in technology are helping vinyl flooring evolve in both design and construction, with some products now addressing these disadvantages effectively.
